I recently found an article about Taylor Swift Slams Sexist Critics.

http://www.etonline.com/news/152753_taylor_swift_slams_sexist_critics/index.html (I could not figure out how to insert URL thingy.. but I tried)

While Taylor Swift gets criticized for singing about her ex-boyfriends and for having many boyfriends (not at the same time), male artists do not. I think that these types of critiques are sexist.

I belive these kinds of critiques have barely been questioned because people have been learning and accepting the sexual double standard; men are encouraged to engage in sexual activities and women are not supposed to have strong sexual feelings(it is considered to be good for men to have many partners and considered to be bad for women to do so.).

I think it means a lot for both male and female that famous people like Taylor stands up and raise voice to acknowledge those hidden sexism in media coverage. Sexism does not only target at female, but also male can be victims as well (not in this case).

Thank you for sharing this article. I very much agree that women in the public eye face heightened scrutiny for their sexuality. This is a classic example of media outlets focussing on women’s behaviors and looks rather than their looks.

This is a really great Ted talk about how gossip sites portray men and women differently. Definitely worth checking out! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oFDWOXV6iEM
