Missouri Governor Jay Nixon has declared a state of emergency as the grand jury comes closer to announcing its decision in the Mike Brown case. Governor Nixon stated that he took this action because there is a “possibility of expanded unrest.” I found out about this decision through Twitter, where people are using #StateOfEmergency to express themselves and share their opinions of Governor Nixon’s decision to send the National Guard to the Ferguson-area. It will interesting to see what happens when grand jury announces its decision. Some tweets are powerful. I would read them!

Thanks for sharing Josue. Upon looking through the hastag, I found some really cool tweets.

I can’t upload photos as a comment so I’ll transcribe the tweets; here are some of my favorite.

James Croft @JFLCroft – “Planned Protests are not an emergency. The real #StateofEmergency is systemic racism and the epidemic of police shooting people of color.”

Vicente Perez @I_Am_ SubVersive – “Can Black America declare a #StateofEmergency due to the existing Police State, mass incarceration, structural oppression or nah?”

  2. Wow, what a powerful collection of tweets. Its so interesting how social media can change the intended use of a phrase or a hashtag.
