MEDIA WATCHDOGS (the media ecosystem, pp.168-69) and critics have much more power to organize counter-propoganda campaigns against corporate media >> a check against the abuse of power

Screen Shot 2014-12-02 at 8.08.28 PMEvery day, Media Matters for America meticulously documents conservative misinformation in the media. Be it right-wing talking points masquerading as news, or slanted and inaccurate coverage of the issues, we’ve been there, and we’ve let you know about it. But we keep getting the same response: how can I help Media Matters’ truth-telling efforts?Screen Shot 2014-12-02 at 8.08.20 PM

And it’s never been easier to add your voice — Media Matters Take Action is now mobile-optimized, so you can participate on the go.

About Civic Action Civic Action, a nonprofit educational and advocacy organization, set up in 2001, is home to MoveOn’s public education efforts and issue advocacy campaigns as well as many of the Screen Shot 2014-12-02 at 8.12.34 PMonline tools MoveOn makes available to progressives across the country.

We are currently focusing on what we call our Million Leaders strategy — an audacious plan to unleash progressive people power by encouraging and supporting MoveOn members and other progressives to step up as the leaders of their own campaigns for social change. This strategy includes MoveOn Petitions, our online petition tool that empowers you to lead and win your own MoveOn-style campaigns.

Media Matters Take Action is an example of the many watchdogs “that take seriously the role of media as a check against the abuse of power.” MoveOn Petitions (*for any individuals whose manifesto may want to include a petition) is an online tool that empowers any individual who wishes to lead their own campaign. I thought this tool was/is a great resource for either the purpose of a groups manifesto or for use in the future! Never know when you’ll need an online petition tool!
