Our presentation was on cultural appropriate and so I urge everyone to watch the full video by Amandla Stenberg that I discussed. It can be found at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O1KJRRSB_XA&feature=youtu.be. She makes some really good and clear points for you to gain a better understanding of the issue. What I think is really great about Amandla’s video is how young she is. It was originally created by her and a friend for their history class. Having people that young (16 years old) so passionate about problems in society is a really good thing to see. I spoke quite a lot about the video in the presentation so I shan’t go on too much. I would also like to direct you all to some other articles and information on our topic.

I highly recommend Everyday Feminism as a good place to start with pieces such as: http://everydayfeminism.com/2015/08/appropriating-black-culture and http://everydayfeminism.com/2016/09/cultural-appropriation-trends/.

I really like this video and think it provides an important and neccessary message, and prompt for conversation for this nationwide issue. Amandla provides a brief historical context as well as breakdown of this issue of cultural appropriation that is catered to a vast audience-but particularly a younger crowd, which I think is important in raising awareness especially in our generation of people and activism. I think video is a really great way to address issues while remaining engaging. A person and activist who also does this well is Youtuber, Kat Blaque, who talks about trans issues, feminism, black cultural appropriation and more in a very captivating way.
