During my presentation in class last week I spoke of a black trans-woman Beyoncé impersonator named Miss Shalae who worked with a team of other trans women of color to create their own version of Beyoncé’s Lemonade video. I’ve attached the link here because the 11 minute video is extremely well done (despite being shot in only 16 hours!) and everyone should check it out!

    I love this project video. I think that Miss Shalae is an important voice the needs to be given more recognition in mainstream media as a black trans-woman. Miss Shalae’s work exposes the beauty and art behind trans-drag, which is comprised of a group of people that have been heavily scrutinized. I also think it’s important that she used an all trans cast as a way to unite the trans-community and provide a safe space for creativity.
