The Yes Men really showed how just subverting people’s expectations really gets people thinking. I got sent this by my friend who works at Ikea the other week and I think it is really applicable. Interestingly enough this is actually a big corporation trying to raise awareness, though I am sure they are not a perfect company at least they are doing something publicly.

In case you don’t know Ikea is a Swedish company that basically sets up big warehouses of flatpack furniture that they sell through displaying them in a show home style. Instead of their usual plush rooms they installed a replication of what life might be like for a Syrian refugee. The article also makes a good point that with the election going on people tend to forget about the other problems in the world.

this is great, so wonderful to see corporations using their platforms for good and raising awareness about where we should focus our clouded vision.

This is a really powerful statement by Ikea. Actions like this offer different perspectives to horrible situations like in Syria.

I feel like big corporations get such a bad reputation for doing nothing to promote or help world issues. So it’s great to see a company as big as Ikea really making an effort to make a statement and raise awareness.
