Asmaa Mahfouz’s vlog made me think a lot about protesting and guilt. What stood out to me most was when she said in the video, “Sitting at home and just following us on news or Facebook leads to our humiliation… If you stay at home you deserve all that is being done to you.” She tells her viewers that silence won’t do any good if you want to see change. So what happens (not just in the cause of Egypt but in any social justice issue) if you don’t go out and protest or you don’t have the access/ability to do so? What can you do and should you feel guilty for that? If so, how much? Thinking of the recent events in our country, speaking up is crucial right now, especially for people who fear for their futures. And it can be hard to know what the best thing to do is.
